Exaltation of the Holy Cross

Our parish is celebrating the Feast of the Exaltation of the Precious and Holy Cross this Thursday night and Friday morning.

This Feast commemorates the Finding of the Cross by Empress Helen, the mother of St. Constantine the Great, in Jerusalem on September 14, 320 A.D. When the Cross was found, the Patriarch of Jerusalem raised it high above his head to bless the large crown which had gathered. They all cried: "Lord have mercy!"

At the Vigil Service on Thursday night, the Ceremonial Cross (with a tiny sliver of the Cross of Christ) will be carried to the center of the church and raised high to bless the four corners of the building. As did the the people in Jerusalem almost 1700 years ago, we will chant "Lord have mercy" multiple times and venerate the Holy Wood with prostrations and fervent prayer.

Come to the services of the Holy Cross. Bow down to the Precious Emblem of our Salvation! Remember what our Lord has done for us on this Saving Tree of Life!
